Getting There: 3.5 months Post Op

At the three month mark, I was still trudging very slowly in recovery.  I was wearing odd shoes, icing a ton, and seeing small, incremental improvements.  Some days it hurt like hell; others it felt decent.

At just after 3 months (maybe 3 months and a week) I decided I would essentially kick the heel's ass and see what happened.  The first week I tried to go on some walks.  It was a little tough.  It seemed easier with open back sandals on, but the hills were still rough.

The next week, I upped it even more.  I'm trying to commit to 10,000 steps per day again and also trying a 30 minute walk every day.  As I write this, I've had three consecutive 10k days.  I'm also trying to lose weight.  I have a trip coming up in July and a lot to lose!

The ankle is responding fairly well.  It still hurts.  A bit of a dull pain throughout the day.  I still have a limp, as well.  It is a bit less pronounced.  In fact, some people don't notice it.  I am walking faster, as well.

It is tough to put a "recovery percentage" on it.  I would say I'm about 70-75% there.  I wonder if I'll ever be 100%, or just close?  Really I wasn't 100% prior to the surgery because of my previous high ankle sprain, but I was probably 95%.

I will say that I have had better weeks the last couple of weeks as I've pushed it more.  I'm also wearing regular shoes.  I take the left one off when I get the chance, and I'm still trying to ice here and there (still not enough, most likely).

Hope is higher than before!
