Day 2 Post Op

I woke up pretty early on Day 2. Obviously sleep patterns tend to be a mess under these circumstances. Early in the day, the nerve block is running strong.

I decided early on to take all the meds that were provided to me during the first few days, including those for nausea, nerve pain, muscle spasms, etc. Most are on a 6 hour schedule, so I decided to take the pain pills on the same routine. The Oxycodone in particular knocks me out so I spend several hours at different times of the day dozing.

I'm committed to the crutches, by order, until the knee block wears off. The knee scooter is so much easier. While I'm not looking forward to losing the block, I am looking forward to the convenience of the scooter.

I'm able to hope around and used the kitchen bar stool to help me clean myself up for the day, brush my teeth, and stay somewhat presentable.

I keep my leg propped up on the wedge pillow, supporting it with tons of other pillows at different angles throughout the day until I find a comfortable spot.

"The Wedge"

During the overnight of day two, the nerve block wore off. It was gradually disappearing throughout the day but was gone by the night. I woke up and felt a lot going on "inside" of the wrapped up ankle. Oxycodone helped me sleep through the night, though. I took one at the four hour point to help get me to the morning.

While I had some pain, it was bearable throughout the late morning and early afternoon to the point where I skipped the pain meds. This lasted until about 4pm when things started to sketch up a bit and  I decided to down one.

Post-op appointment is a week from tomorrow; anxious to see what he did and how it'll look.

PAIN OF THE DAY

  • The pain of the day award goes to a sharp pain on the top of the foot when I was moving to get on the knee scooter. Most likely this is where he made some incisions to look at the ligaments that often get damaged with peroneal tears. This one kicked up multiple times.

I SHOULD'VE GOTTEN THIS BEFOREHAND...

  • Bendy straws for drinks
  • A small notebook to track which meds I'll take next
